Say Cheese

This bonny young chick is Maggie Eckford, a twenty-five-year-old singer-songwriter born in Mississippi, who started composing heartfelt lyrics at the age of fourteen. All of a sudden, she decided to move to Australia to get inspiration for her songs. Mehh! In my opinion it was only an excuse to visit the land of heavenly beaches and meet any of the tanned muscle hunks you'd hope to see surfing. Don't cha' think there's a stronger singer-songwriter tradition grounded in the folk music around the you ess of aye?

Ok, it's not a big deal. The important issue is that she put me in awe after hearing her happily upbeat and infectious tune Asleep, whose video I still don't understand. I've got a hell-of-a-lot of doubts! What's wrong with taking pics of a lighted tree? Is she a sleepwalker?? How can she ride at night without a headlamp? The woman at the store is really a shopkeeper or a spy for the FBI?? The only thing I know is that I want a Polaroid instant camera like hers!!!!

Asleep

This song is also worth listening to. Heh.

After hitting the replay button multiple times, check out some more of Maggie's stuff on Myspace.

Interestingly, there's a German guy who bought the old Polaroid manufacturing machines from Polaroid (when they gave up this line) and has since been selling these products to a world-wide audience: http://www.the-impossible-project.com/

I've never owned a Polaroid myself but used one quite a few times and they are pretty awesome. Not because of the instant pic - you can also have this with any digital camera or smartphone (there's an app for that, right? :-) - but because it's already on paper and perfect for sketchbooks. And when I say sketchbooks, i am talking about collages like the ones by the late Dan Eldon http://www.daneldon.org

Sorry, off-topic. But I really miss having my pics on paper. Do you have yours printed?

The sketchbooks by Dan Eldon really overwhelm me with such horror vacui!

The last time I went to London I was about to buy a beautiful yellow one (you can find second hand Polaroids at rock-bottom prices there) but it'd take up too much space in my suitcase!

I've accidentally deleted some pix from my PC's hard disk drive over the years. Nevertheless, I never learn cuz I still don't print those I like the most.
