Not So Little

And now for something completely different!

I've come across this Swedish-based foursome hailing from Gothenburg, the hotbed of diverse musical talent thanks to artists such as José González and Jens Lekman.

Little Dragon is a guitar-free band whose music is equal parts indie-soul and electro-pop. Nuh-uh. It's difficult to fit them into a defined genre. How to describe their music? Uff da! The best way I can do it is as jazzy, post-R&B with synth-beats and heavy basslines, though a bit boingy at points. In short, irresistible rhythms that give the listener undeniable urge to dance. There's also a dreamy and sensual soulful female voice of black roots, despite the Asian origin of the singer. In fact, the band's name came from a nickname she earned cos of her temper and studio frustrations during recording.

Though the group is only four years old, they've collaborated on the latest album by Gorillaz. Besides, their track Twice, a minor-key piano ballad off their sophomore album, landed on Grey's Anatomy

While we're waiting for the arrival of their new album, Ritual Union, that will be released on July 12, we have a whole lotta lounge tunes to be going on with. Some of the them are really emotional, mournful and superbly relaxing. Nevertheless, I've chosen the most twitchy ones cos I was afraid you fell asleep in front of the computer.
